KIEV, August 8th. /Basereporter.com/. The Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine (MEDT) does not consider the termination of railway communication with Russia as reasonable measures on the Russian side. This was stated by the Ministry on Wednesday.
“Economic development is not considering the termination of passenger service as a tool for economic impact or as part of measures to combat the transit of Russian aggression”, – told the Agency in response to the request of the Agency UNN.
From comments on economic losses, which may result in termination of passenger railway communication with Russia, the Ministry refrained, having explained that this question refers to the competence of another Ministry.
Earlier, on 6 August, the Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced that relevant agencies of the country consider the possibility of termination of railway communication with Russia. According to the Omelyan, the authorities are ready to take this step despite the fact that three of the five most profitable from a commercial point of view trains of the company “Ukrzaliznytsia” (“Ukrainian Railways”) is going to Russia.
The Russian foreign Ministry called the initiative of Ukrainian Minister of infrastructure is absurd. As stated by the state Secretary, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin, reasoning Omelyana actually aimed at blocking any contacts between citizens of Ukraine and Russia.
According to “Ukrzaliznytsia”, the routes to Russia were the most profitable for the Railways of Ukraine for the past year. In the first place was the route of the train Kiev – Moscow, which fetched $5.8 million followed by the direction Odessa – Moscow ($3.7 million). The five most profitable also got the route Kiev – St. Petersburg ($0.8 million) and two domestic flights from Kyiv to Odessa and Lviv.
