The head of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev called “meaningless and futile” statement of the Ministers of justice of Latvia and Estonia, concerning demands compensation from Russia for the period of “Soviet occupation”.
The Minister of justice of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu and his Latvian counterpart Dzintars rasnačs plan to review the requirement of compensation for the period of “Soviet occupation”, said Tuesday the press service of the Ministry of justice of Estonia. The Ministers also expressed their willingness to resolve the issue of compensation in international law at the UN level.
“The theme, to put it mildly, is not new. I see no need to respond to another senseless and futile maneuver the Baltic Russophobes, making own career,” Kosachev wrote on his page on Facebook on Wednesday.
The Senator recalled that eight years ago, he wrote on “the need of situational and each time a single reaction to such visits, and comprehensive stance towards the Soviet past and the degree of responsibility of Russia as a country – successor to the Soviet Union for his actions”.
“I repeat, needs a kind of historical concept on this issue, which would once and for all shut any attempts of speculations on topics such a complicated and in many ways is really tragic past of our countries and peoples”, – said Kosachev.
