SUKHUM, August 26. /Basereporter.com/. Russia will continue to provide all possible assistance to the government and people of Abkhazia, said in the congratulation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the 10th anniversary of recognition of independence of this Republic. The message was read out Sunday by Vice-speaker of the state Duma Olga Timofeeva at the solemn meeting in the Abkhazian gestaltete.

“Over the past 10 years Abkhazia has passed a long way of formation of statehood, substantial progress has been made in the field of socio-economic development. Would like to reiterate that the Russian Federation will continue to extend full cooperation to the government and people of Abkhazia in solving the problems of state-building and national security,” – said in greeting.

The Russian President wished the people of Abkhazia peace, and prosperity.

Russia recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia on 26 August 2008. It happened shortly after the armed attack of Georgia on South Ossetia, committed in the night of 8 August. Then Russia came to the defense of the citizens of the Republic, many of whom by that time had taken the citizenship of Russia and its peacekeepers, who worked in the region since 1992.
