MOSCOW, July 24. /Basereporter.com/. The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and chief of the General staff of the armed forces Valery Gerasimov discussed on Tuesday in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, conditions for return of refugees in Syria, as well as the work of the Norman format. This is stated in a statement, the Russian foreign Ministry following the meeting.
“During the meeting the parties discussed the situation around the Syrian settlement, including tasks related to the preparation of conditions for the return of refugees and the promotion of the political process, – have informed in the Russian foreign Ministry. – In addition, was discussed the ongoing work in the framework of the Normandy format on implementation of the Minsk agreements of February 12, 2015”.
The talks also touched upon some bilateral issues.
Earlier, the representative of the Cabinet of Germany Ulrike Demmer reported that this meeting had been agreed last week between Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On the eve of Lavrov and Gerasimov visited West Jerusalem, where he discussed with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu the task of completion of the antiterrorist operation in the South of Syria and ensure security along Israel’s borders.
